WEEKLY POEM # 10
This is an older poem I have always liked.
let us consider
let us consider
page
the matter at hand
let us aim for the core
the elusive core
i tried to tell myself
a lie: that all is right
i tried to tell
whomever listens
— it's a kind of living
— it's a kind of dying
another voice replies
let me tell you
page
there is never
one line through to the heart
the elusive heart
to be hunting
in paper dreams
and flesh
for a fixed point
a geometry of soul
an unfinished calculation
with only one or maybe two
unsolved unknowns
i must say
page
the ways i have
to underline my living
undermine me
underline my dying
we are lonely friends
page
with a mirror glass
in our trembling hands
trying to see to see
what can be seen
even in greyness
