WEEKLY POEM #2
clown nose
the red clown nose
got slipped into his coat pocket
pristine, playful
later he found it there
the inside turned black
greasy
cradled it in his hands
head tipped sideways, wondering
had he become
a clown of darkness
the dark growing
from the inside
his forefinger stroked
the concave curve
came out blackened
he traced an arc
smudged the outer skin
should he now paint it black
recalling words from
the clowning instructor
to clown is to let the
inside out
no choice in being
made
